Summer Onset in Northern East Asia: Feature, Mechanism and Variability

نویسندگان

چکیده

Summer in the East Asian monsoon region is characterized by heavy rainfall and high temperature. Its onset, depicted and/or airflow as well surface air temperature, has been documented. However, onset of summer season rarely addressed northern Asia (NEA) around edge monsoon. This study investigates feature, mechanism, variability NEA based on ERA-5 reanalysis dataset for 1979–2020. Results show that, climatology, occurs pentad 31 when spring-to-summer warming process decelerated at highest rate. The change rate mainly attributed to a decrease diabatic heat, mostly sensible temperature advection plays small role. After summer, regional low-level northwesterly winds are weakened, local cyclonic low forms. latter, coupled with southerly south, advects more moisture into increases rainfall. Furthermore, threshold 17 °C, climatological mean 31, was proposed depict NEA. Based threshold, year-to-year timing revealed, ranging from 29 (late May) 34 (middle June), standard deviation 1.2 pentads. It advanced 0.6 pentads, average, after late 1990s. provides new method objectively quantify Asia, which thermodynamically explainable may help us monitor different latitudes topography.

Dynamics of Interannual Variability in Summer Precipitation over East Asia*

The summertime mei-yu–baiu rainband over East Asia displays considerable interannual variability. A singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis for interannual variability reveals that precipitation anomalies over the mei-yu–baiu region are accompanied by in situ anomalies of midtropospheric horizontal temperature advection. Anomalous warm (cool) advection causes increased (decreased) mei-yu–ba...

East Asian summer monsoon precipitation variability since the last deglaciation

The lack of a precisely-dated, unequivocal climate proxy from northern China, where precipitation variability is traditionally considered as an East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) indicator, impedes our understanding of the behaviour and dynamics of the EASM. Here we present a well-dated, pollen-based, ~20-yr-resolution quantitative precipitation reconstruction (derived using a transfer function) ...

Impact of variability in the Indian summer monsoon on the East Asian summer monsoon

We report on model experiments that support the hypothesis that the second mode of variability of the East Asian Summer Monsoon is influenced by the variability of the Indian Summer Monsoon. The results suggest that the recent trend towards drier conditions in northern China in summer is, at least partly, a consequence of the synchronous drying trend over India in summer noted by some authors. ...
